McGookin off to a flying start in Ireland

Robert McGookin has joined A1 Flue Systems in a sales role to cover the whole of Ireland, and he’s wasted no time in picking up orders for commercial flue and chimney systems for new office and apartment blocks that are springing up in Dublin Quays.

Mr McGookin is a well-known figure in the Irish heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry, with more than 35 years’ experience, including working for PLC businesses, operating chains of builders’ merchants and running his own company.

He explained the reason why he joined the company. “A1 Flue Systems is the market leader with a track record that speaks for itself on projects such as The Shard in London – which is the tallest building in the UK,” he said. “The strength of A1’s portfolio is already opening doors for us.

“But what best exemplifies A1’s capabilities in Ireland is that it installed the flue and chimney systems in Stormont – because A1 was the company able to get rid of so much hot air!”

Robert, who is married and lives in Templepatrick, added: “It feels like the Celtic Tiger is starting to roar again, and A1 is very well placed to support the construction of new projects that need flue and chimney systems connected to the boiler systems that power a building’s heating and hot water systems.

“Similarly, we specialise in refurbishment projects where new systems need to be installed as part of building improvements on schools, hospitals, office blocks, hotels and public buildings.”

A1 Director John Hamnett is delighted not only to have appointed Robert but also how quickly he has hit the ground running.

“We have had a presence in Ireland for a number of years, but Robert’s appointment signals our intent to increase our activities and capitalise on the opportunities both north and south of the border,” said John.

“Our strength is being able to offer solutions that architects and construction companies either hadn’t thought of or don’t think are possible – which is why we are UK market leaders and get invited to work on projects such as the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station in London.”
