A1 wins five awards in a week

A1 Flue Systems has won two more awards – taking its tally to five in a week.

Our director TJ Duncan-Moir won Business Person of the Year at the Chad Business Awards, and A1 also picked up a Highly Commended in Excellence in Manufacturing.

In the space of a week, TJ was also named the Nottingham Post newspaper’s Businesswoman of the Year, and we picked up two gongs – another Highly Commended for Manufacturing Excellence, and TJ scooped a Highly Commended for Director of the Year – at the Midlands Family Business Awards.

Commenting on the clutch of award wins, TJ said she and fellow director John Hamnett were delighted that the business had been recognised for the highest standards it had set itself for manufacturing commercial flue and chimney systems. The awards are also a vote of confidence in their leadership in taking the business onto the global stage since they took over the running of the family-owned business five years ago.

“We are delighted that the spotlight is firmly on A1 Flue Systems because it feels that it’s taken us 40 years to be regarded as an overnight success!” said TJ. “But the reality has been a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment by our 140-strong team, who are all focused on becoming the UK centre of excellence for the design, manufacture and installation of commercial and industrial chimney, flue and exhaust systems.

“Five awards in a week is an unbelievable achievement and one we are very proud of.”

The year 2016 has been stellar for us, with highlights including securing the contract to install flue systems as part of the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station and exporting flue systems to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to be installed in Dubai’s IMG Worlds of Adventure – the world’s largest indoor theme park.

We are also reaping the rewards of being a British manufacturer, and we are seeing a spike in contract wins following the Brexit announcement. This is because many of our UK rivals import the vast majority of their flues from Europe and have been hit by the fall in the value of the pound against currencies such as the euro.

John added that the future is looking bright for A1 Flues because its firm belief in being a British manufacturer is paying dividends.

“As a business, we strive to be the very best we can, and we know that we are at least 8–10 years ahead of the rest of the industry in terms of the standards to which we design, engineer, manufacture and install flue systems.

“Winning five awards in a week is the icing on the cake for everyone at A1 Flue Systems, and it only strengthens our conviction to keep on doing what we’re doing because it’s working well for us.”
