A1 boss wins Women in Manufacturing Award

Our Director TJ Duncan-Moir has won the Women in Manufacturing Award at the Nottingham Post’s Women in Business Awards.

TJ took the crown at the event that was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nottingham to recognise the efforts of women in different business sectors across the county.

It’s the second time in less than six months that our company has walked away with the top prize, after we won the Excellence in Manufacturing Award at the Nottingham Post’s Business Awards in May.

TJ was delighted to receive the award and said that it’s fantastic recognition for a company in a quiet corner of North Nottinghamshire that leads the UK in the manufacture of flue and chimney systems that have been installed in some of the UK’s highest-profile projects, such as The Shard in London.

“It’s such an honour to receive the award because it represents a lot of hard work and dedication by everyone at A1 to develop a manufacturing process that is the envy of our industry in the UK and beyond,” she said.

“We work damn hard at A1 to continually drive up standards and push back boundaries of manufacturing excellence to ensure that we constantly stay on top of our game so that we are the first port of call on the most-challenging construction projects.”

“On a personal level, I’d like to think that the judges were impressed by the fact that there was no grace or favour just because my father Colin started the business back in 1973. I’ve had to work my way up from the bottom and work twice as hard to prove myself in a male-oriented environment.”

TJ is also a role model for her eldest daughter, who is showing the potential to follow in TJ’s footsteps: 20-year-old Autumn runs CFCM, the flue maintenance division of the company.
