A1 scoops brace of manufacturing awards

Hot on the heels of winning Excellence in Manufacturing at the Nottingham Post Business Awards, we’ve only gone and won another award just six days later.

Our directors TJ and John were on hand to receive the Small Manufacturer (up to £20m turnover) Award at the Insider’s Made in the Midlands 2015.

The common thread that ran through both award wins was that A1 Flue Systems is achieving far higher standards of manufacturing than the current EU and British Standards for the commercial flue industry in the UK, according to TJ.

“Fellow director John Hamnett and I were delighted to receive the award on behalf of all 135 staff at A1 Flue Systems, who share a common goal in continually striving for higher standards when it comes to designing, manufacturing and installing commercial flue and chimney systems,” said TJ.

“Both awards are fantastic, as they are tangible symbols that our continual pursuit of excellence and our uncompromising attitude towards standards are the reasons why we are comfortably the UK market leader in our industry.

“It’s fantastic to think that a business in a small corner of North Nottinghamshire leads the UK and, increasingly, the world in flue manufacture.”

A1 has built a reputation for the quality of all its products and is a preferred supplier to more than 30 of the UK’s largest construction companies. It is the only company in the UK that has the capability to design, manufacture and install flue and chimney systems into the UK’s most challenging construction projects, such as The Shard in London.

John Hamnett added that A1 is a family-run business that employs generations of local people from Ollerton near Newark and that this is key to the company’s success.

“Ours is a family business in every sense of the word, and it’s these ties that underpin the way everyone throughout the company pulls together to set standards for ourselves that are at least ten years ahead of the rest of our industry,” he said.

“We are involved in some very exciting construction projects for what will become some very high-profile, and even iconic, buildings in the UK. The only reason we are involved is because we never stop trying to find ways to improve the way that we manufacture flue systems.”
