A1's charity Great British Bake Off

Staff at A1 Flue Systems held a charity fundraising event based on the popular TV show The Great British Bake Off – complete with our own versions of stars Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.

Everyone had been busy baking pink themed food and judging one another’s efforts as part of the Pink Fridays fundraiser, which has raised nearly £200 for Breast Cancer Care.

The Friday afternoon finale of the week-long baking bonanza was the judging by Dave Lishman and Janet Laverick, who became Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry in order to check for soggy bottoms when tasting cakes that had been entered by A1’s amateur bakers.

Dave and Janet sampled lots of cakes from people and crowned fellow worker Colin Mayne the A1 Master Baker for his sublime ‘pink’ chocolate sponge. In second place was a ‘pink’ cheesecake and 3rd place cornflake tart with ‘pink’ pastry.

The duo praised the standard of baking at the company, which is better known for being the UK market leader in the design, manufacture and installation of commercial and industrial chimney, flue and exhaust systems.

“We have been surprised at just how high the standard has been and we clearly have some very talented bakers at A1,” they said.

“Throughout this week, the ladies have been bringing in pink creations and selling them to raise money for Breast Cancer Care. On Friday, the men brought their pink themed food in to enter our version of the Great British Bake Off."

“It’s been really good fun and helped raise a lot of money for a cause that A1 has been supporting for a number of years now.”

The company is a long-time supporter of Breast Cancer Care and in the past has done its own version of ‘calendar girls’ featuring naked staff behind sections of chimneys.
