New faces at A1 Flues

There are a host of new faces at A1 Flues after a recent much-needed recruitment drive to keep up with demand for orders of commercial and industrial chimneys.

We have made appointments across different parts of our business. Toby Musgrave has joined the Engineering department, Courtney Phillips has started an apprenticeship in the Estimating team, Lorraine Hill is the new face in the Accounts department and Stuart McCready has been bought in to the Technical team to oversee the development of a new air quality modelling service – which is expected to launch before the end of the year.

Our Director John Hamnett said that A1 Flues has a healthy order book of projects – including two that are about to be signed for a combined total of more than £5m.

“Our order book remains strong because we excel at securing ‘bread and butter’ contracts for schools, hospitals, hotels and office blocks across the UK and in Ireland – which is why we need to ensure we have the right people in the right places and hence why we’ve gone through a period of active recruitment,” he said.

“We’re a tight-knit team, which means that every appointment is key for us because they have to be able to fit in straightaway and understand that everyone pulls in the same direction to drive this business forward.

“Our guiding principles of excellence, pride, passion and precision set us apart as the UK market leader the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of commercial and industrial chimney, flue and exhaust systems."

Apprentice Courtney Phillips said that she is delighted to join A1, as the company has a great track record of career progression.

“I’m really enjoying being in the Estimating department because it’s really busy and I’m developing new skills supporting the team, who have to take information from engineers and produce accurate design estimates for new flue and chimney systems,” said Courtney. “I recognise what a great opportunity it is and I’m grabbing it with both hands.”

John added that the company is very proud that it is recognised as a centre of excellence and has developed its own Flue School approach to training to ensure that it continually develops the skills it needs across the business.

“We set the highest engineering, design and manufacturing standards for our business, and we can confidently say that we are head and shoulders above the rest of the industry. The new recruits will go through our Flue School programme so that they understand why we’re so driven to be the very best.

“It’s an exciting time to join A1 Flue Systems and a great opportunity to be part of a team who are working on some of the most challenging, but ultimately rewarding, projects in the UK and beyond.”
