BRITISH LIBRARY OPENS THE BOOK ON FLUE
EFFICIENCY

Major improvements to the flue system at the British Library’s
Boston Spa site have been completed by A1 Bridge Flue Systems.
The Library’s Yorkshire site employs 1300 people and
dispatches nearly four million documents annually to individuals
and organisations worldwide. Customers include those operating
in education, science, business, charity and industrial sectors.
Because of the type of fuel used on site, particularly
acidic flue conditions exist - this in turn had caused problems
with fume leakage in the plant room. Library staff do not
have access to this area and the leak did not pose any danger
to them, however, the problem had to be resolved.
To minimise disruption within the complex, A1
Bridge Flue Systems completed the renovation in just three
days, stripping out the existing flue system and replacing
it with a new pressure resistant Deltavent twin wall system.
This connected from the boiler to the base of a thirty metre
high stack.
Throughout the refurbishment, heat was maintained
to the Library using boiler rotation.
Malcolm Campbell, Boston Spa’s facilities
manager commented: “We were very pleased with the flue
renovation work carried out by A1 Bridge Flue Systems. They
completed the job swiftly and to a high standard. Fume leakage
into our boiler plant no longer occurs and as an added benefit
the boilers operate more efficiently”.
